If your apartment building is built anything like my dorm building was (and I presume that it probably is) then you are going to get about 50 feet of coverage through walls, maybe less.
Look around, I was doing tech work for companies and the goverment when I was 15, there are jobs out there, you just have to know the right people to get them.
Good luck,
BEN

i want to get a external HD to work with my 27" imac that i purchased last summer.
should i get one with Thunderbolt technology?
Also, would i hook this external up through my router or directly to the imac
neither of which have the thunderbolt connection port....
so, i'm wondering if there's any advantage getting one with TB
thanks for your thoughts

Would you perfer gangster hand signs, a Borat thumbs up, a hang ten sign, or the middle finger? Agree with the social assessments above.

There's nothing wrong... I get the same temperature.
You do know that the mbp will shut itself down in case something bad happens?
Dont worry about it. Just play. You wont get significant changes with any cooler. I have a chilldesk mini XL that plugs in the usb port (and you can plug another usb item into the cooler) and while it's very handy for the lap, as a stand and is cheap, I'm not getting more than 3-4 degrees celcius.
Your mbp is build to handle the high temps. Enjoy it!

Is there a way of getting this added to the new 27 2011 imac
could i just buy one and fit rather than getting apple to do it
has anybody done anything similar to this
thanks
The Apple SSD option at $500.00 is as cheap or cheaper than if you were to buy it not from Apple at 256GB size.

I'm waiting to hear back from nomar. If he doesn't respond within 24 hours, it goes to Amber.

A quick check on my MacBook (which I have with me at the moment) and my home Snow Leopard Server show Admin group being Read Only. This seems to be very reasonable since there is no legitimate reason to be creating new files or folders in the root directory. External drives are all Read&Write in their roots.

Hey all!
I am having a hard time avoiding the big bloated, slow monstrosity that is Xcode. I've even tried Xcode, but I disliked the UI and I would like to try an alternative that is simpler and much lighter.
Ideally, I'd prefer the IDE and the compiler to be cross-platform. It's strange coming from GNU/Linux to Mac OS X and it's one-way attitude.
Anyway, thanks in advance!
The compilers on Mac OS X are just GCC and LLVM / Clang. Both of which obviously work on numerous different platforms.
As for the IDE, just check out your favourite Linux IDE. Most will work on Mac OS X as long as you have installed the correct dependencies.

Nothing definitive has been announced. It seems like it has been more of a toy for Apple than anything serious so I wouldn't depend on it long term. I've never liked it personally.

there are some nice clear gel bumpers on the web if you search for them. The clear one looks especially good on a white iphone.

OK. I like the new one I made a lot better. All I did was change the opacity of the MR logo so it would not seem so out of place and I added a 6 in there.

Have you tried a soft reset? You can perform this by holding the home button and the lock button together for around ten seconds the Phoebe would automatically switch off and restart displaying the apple logo for around another 20 seconds, in normal cases that would resolve your issue if not I would try to restore the iPhone via iTunes.
Hope that helps.

Ahh yes, I suppose I didn't say, it would be your first one, a more red vs blue thing. And yes I have it scripted out. Thanks for the advice both of you.

Have done a search and couldn't find an existing thread with the same problem... so here goes...
As per the title, my iPhone 4 (4.3.2) is currently paired to my MY11 Subaru Impreza's head unit... which works great to receive phone calls.
However - it also seems as soon as it connects, the phone starts playing music (via BT-Audio) even if I don't have BT-A selected as the input on the head unit.
This of course sucks the battery down something rotten.
There's a known problem with the iPhone 4 and the Subaru HU in that it won't get contacts off the phone (although apparently works ok with iPhone 3's), however noone at the dealership had any idea about this BT-A problem.
I've tried un-pairing and re-pairing it, however it seems the HU has the BT-A and phone side of things intertwined.
Thoughts? Surely I can stop the phone from automatically starting to play music when it pairs to the head unit?

This is my first Mac. This is my first desktop since 1998. This is my first computer period since 2006.
Ever since I got my iPad on release day last year I stopped using my PC.
That all being said, I realize now that things are missing. Stuff i used to have run through my PC (media), doing all my backups and updates on my work computer, and now my photography is getting disorganized (i keep it on an external drive at the office). Its time to get a computer for real.
But I can't decide whether or not I need, or should get, anything more than the base 21.5. I will need photoshop and lightroom, but other than playing a few games, i can't think of anything that is resource intensive (ok, ripping and encoding videos would be).
It just seems like most people here get the 27 or the i7 and all of the upgrades, and I'm wondering, what am i really missing with the smaller one?

as long as it's not a gray install DVD, which are machine specific, you should be fine.
