Get an M-Audio pre-amp, then you can plug any mic into it (Shure, etc).
Pre-Amp provides for much better quality and flexibility...
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/MobilePreUSB-main.html
180 bucks for a pre-amplifier? I just want to use it for Skype... and I don't want to carry around a pre-amplifier AND a microphone. I'll probably have a look at bluetooth headsets, that seems to be the cheaper and more portable solution.

I guess this is good news, although it would be nice for the US to get it's priorities straight on gay rights first."Those who can't do, teach." ;)

Not sure what's wrong then, especially if you tried to repair the disk through the disk utility and it was fine. That I/O error should have been corrected.
Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge than me will respond here because other than using disk utility via the OS X install dvd to repair the disk, the only other thing I can think of is to reformat the entire disk.

Sorry if this is an obivous question, but why is it hard to span between two externals with a Powerbook?
You can add support for a 2nd external monitor using the 15"17" PowerBooks PCMCIA slot: http://www.villagetronic.com/e_pr_vtbook.html

iFixit is done with the 21.5 inch teardown. Any thoughts on if users can add an SSD in there with an aftermarket drive? Looks like there's bolt holes to hold something, but I'm not that familiar with what cables would be needed or could be split.

Give me a few minutes, the headline let me to believe that you had already decided. Now I find out that it is a thread about which inexpensive card you should get. I am so confused.
Which one are you favoring?

<Buzzer -- Wrong answer> Those pics were brought up a while back.
It's a dead giveaway. Why would the Apple logo have a left stem?

I'd like to get a mac mini server to use as a DVR etc. and then put regular mac mini's in each room in the house. I would also use my airport extreme which I already have.
The goal would be to have everything stored on either the server or the airport, and allow me to push any recorded program to any mac mini in the house for viewing. Is this possible with just the purchase of the mini server and a few minis (With my already purchased airport), or would I need other hardware to make it work too?

I'd like to hear the answer to this as well. I had the exact same thing happen--I bought a used iPad, went nuts in the app store, and then went to sync it. I set it to manually manage music, and still had no luck. I have two macs, so I tried it on the other machine and the second machine transfered all the apps to the computer and let me sync music without deleting.
I have no idea what the difference was. :)

Go to the sorce:
www.apple.com/store
Or the many other fine outlets:
www.macwarehouse.com
www.maczone.com
www.macmall.com
I hate amazon.com they suck, and I even live in Seattle, HA!
You'll find that most Apple products (esp. their computers) don't neccerly will change price from one dealer to another.

I am thinking of ordering the lacie slim dvd burner
http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10186
I know it isn't as fast as a desktop model, but I want to be able to take it with me, and I know my next mac will have a superdrive, so I wouldnt need an external burner. Right now I am using the superdrive on my G4 powermac. I am curious as to how much slower or faster the lacie slim is?
Advice is appreciated!

By "iPhoto file," do you mean "iPhoto Library"? The iPhoto Library is not a file. It is a bundle, a non-executable version of a MacOS X application bundle. A bundle is a special kind of folder that appears to the user as a file, but it is not a file. It contains all of your iPhoto photographs in individual files.
My suggestion to you is to export the photographs that you want to edit one-by-one. You can't edit all of your photographs at once, so why export them all at once? There is a way to get at your the photographs in your iPhoto Library via the Finder. However, it would be irresponsible for you to do that until you learn how to use Photoshop and learn a lot more about how your system works.

I was really expecting it to be released yesterday, especially with those reports a couple weeks ago of it being seeded to the devs.
And you really expect someone here is going to answer that for you?

the new spymac is great, especially the spydisk. 100 MB of online disk space that mounts on the OS X desktop.

My IPhone is a Verizon 4g and it fits perfectly.
The vibrate switch is definitely not perfectly cut out!
I don't particularly like clear-back cases as they get scratched really easily which makes them look bad!
