Could be a sign of a failing HDD. Make sure you have a current backup.
It's been doing it for a little bit now, I back up frequently

Well it can be as slow as 400MHz and as fast as 700MHz. If you could find out how much RAM its already got installed and how fast it is, we could probably make some better suggestions for you. For example, a 700MHz model with 768-1GB of RAM and AirPort card could serve as a nice kitchen/livingroom web browser Mac. If its only 400MHz with 64MB of RAM in it, then it would probably better serve as an OS 9 word processor.

Dealing with autism is a challenge at the best of times. Experts agree that autism can be improved through a variety of therapies, including behavior modification, communication therapy, mediation and dietary changes that will allow a child to learn and develop quickly. There are no clear biological test to determine the onset of autism and it can only be diagnosed by observing the behavioral patterns of the child.

Mac is trying to catch the butterfly but, the butterfly is too quick for him! Hahaha :)
Here's to hoping Mac doesn't fall off a cliff while chasing the butterfly. ;)

I'm guessing $50 for a single person and $80 for a family pack. What are your guesses and why?

Sweet!! :D :D I guess I have OCD...I usually stick to the intended burning speed just for the same reason you won't push it...cost and having to end up with coasters! I hear you on those crazy prices.
Yeah, I want DL media prices to drop. But I'm sure once that happens, the MPAA will step in and complain, because the DL media makes it so much easier to copy movies. Rip, and burn the VIDEO_TS folder with Toast. None of that time consuming encoding. Not that that's what I did with the DL media I bought ;) But the higher prices of DL media, plus a movie rental, makes it almost the same price to just buy the actual DVD. Get DL prices down to a buck or two, and I think Blockbuster's business will boom

Hi all,
Just wondering, you know those CD/DVD protectors they have so you won't scratch your discs? I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be, but I was just wondering, are they OK to use in the slot loading drives? Or is Apple not thrilled with these things...?
Thanks,
-John
Apple specifically states in the manuals to not use the clip on extenders that make a mini (4cm?) CD into a regular sized CD. The reason is that if the CD unclips the combination can easily jam in superdrive.
I noticed the clip on CD protectors the other day and I would expect that they have the same risk. As far as I know these protectors are relatively new and may not yet be on Apple's radar. But as a previous poster mentioned, the superdrive (and pretty much any slot loading drive) has tight tolerances so using anything that results in a thicker/different shape than a standard CD or anything that has the potential of coming loose from a CD should be avoided. (Technically you should not be using a CD with a stick-on label in a slot-loading drive.)

They look fine to me (PC, Win XP, Firfox 1.5 RC2). They may be referring to the slight compression artifacts that you get when you display an image at a smaller resolution than what it is. You can see it along her arms and almost anywhere there is a high jump in contrast. This is due to the fact that browsers don't use high quality resizing algorithms. But other than that I don't notice any distortion.

This is absolutely amazing. This could easily be frontpage news for more people to see. It would be great if more app devs got involved with this.

You should check out VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html). It plays pretty much any video format you can imagine (including WMV).
All but wmv3, which is unfornatley used a lot these days. So you'll be stuck with WMP9 for a while... :(

Has anyone noticed with Lion that the amount of available space being reported is seriously off? On my MBA, which I store almost nothing on, it's telling me that I'm using around 80 gigs of space, with about 40 available.
When I install WhatSize to check this out a little more closely, it looks like I'm using about 30 gigs total.. not 80, and I'm finding this strange.
Cheers!
